I think it’s important for us to know that there are such people in the world, and that in raising awareness of them hopefully it will also increase attempts to stop them. As Holly says over at Menstrual Poetry,

You know what, I actually agree with you for once - this is sick… But I dont think its anything to do with how women are portrayed, I just thing that is one very disturbed man… was it in cold blood do you know?
Its disgusting what someone finds they can do to another, it doesn’t sound sexual though… but then I did wath a documentary about men who found violence, in itself, arousing.

Yeah, doesn’t sound sexual at all.
I didn’t say it was anything to do with how women are portrayed - for me, as well as raising awareness of the capacity of humankind to inflict such pain, this is just yet another example of the fact that women never seem to be safe - you can even be in your own doorway, in a building full of people, and not be safe from men like this. It is terrifying.
